EMBRYOLOGY
Hatching curiosity... one egg at a time!
About Our Program

What is Embryology?
Embark on an enriching 21-day journey with the 4-H Embryology Program, designed to provide students with a hands-on understanding of the chicken life cycle. Throughout this period, educators will guide students as they observe the transformation from fertilized egg to hatching chick, fostering curiosity and a deeper appreciation for biological development.
How Does It Work?
Requirements:
- 10 min per day
- 21-25 days
- A source for fertilized eggs
- A home for the chicks once hatched

Teachers are asked to source their own fertilized eggs and prepare a suitable brooder box—options include a Sterilite container or a cardboard box—to house the chicks post-hatching. Most importantly, teachers must secure adoptive homes for the chicks before the project begins to ensure their continued well-being after the classroom experience concludes.
This program aligns with several South Carolina Academic Standards, particularly in life sciences. The 2nd Grade standard 2.L.5B focuses on how animals interact with their environments and undergo different developmental stages in their life cycles. By participating in the 4-H Embryology Program, students gain practical insights into these concepts, observing firsthand the stages of development and the environmental needs of living organisms.
Beyond meeting educational standards, this program offers a dynamic, experiential learning opportunity that brings science to life, inspiring students and enriching their educational journey.
